The 2008 Brenda Clouten Memorial Travelling Scholarship for a Young Achiever in Visual Arts $3000
closing date: 1 October 2008

This scholarship was established in 2005 to support a young achiever in the Visual Arts (under the age of 25) who is a student at a Tertiary education institution in the Lower Hunter (Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens, Cessnock and Singleton) to travel, study, view and gain a greater understanding of the visual arts in an international context.

2005 scholarship winner Eli Turier used his scholarship to attend a residency program at the Red Gate Gallery in Beijing. 2006 winner Carla Feltham has recently returned from Europe, where she shot a new body of photographic work. 2007 winner artist Ben Soedradjit will undertake a 4 week residency at the London Print Studio in Spring this year. The Brenda Clouten Memorial Scholarship strives to increase emerging artists international experiences in all areas of the arts. The prize is the brainchild of Vicki Woods and her husband Bruce Woods in memory of their friend Brenda who sadly passed away in 2004 from a long battle with breast cancer.

She derived a lot of pleasure from the Arts. She loved the ballet, musicals, theatre and all things arty. She loved the good things in life and always lived for the moment. The scholarship is our way of creating a lasting memorial that will give benefit to a young, upcoming talent in the Hunter area and keep her alive in our hearts. - Vicki and Bruce Woods (Scholarship founders)

This generous scholarship of $3000 is awarded annually on the basis of artistic merit and potential. Applicants must contact MRAG for more information. download application form.
