Collean Hoad
Colleen Hoad has recently graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts (Honours). She is continuing to practice and exhibit her work locally in Newcastle. Her jewellery design, in particular, has become a prominent focus.
"Each button jewel creation is made by hand. All are individual one off pieces. All made with buttons and beads, new and old, bought and found. Incorporated with these are a mix match of trinkets; chains, charms, and miscellaneous jewellery pieces. I use coated wire to band them all together into a visually intriguing, individual jewellery design. Using my pliers and scissors I bend, twist, thread and contort my materials into what you can see as the finished product. Enjoy these pieces, have fun with their colour and sense of play. A new life has been given to these little pieces of old or discarded objects."

Kim Long
I began my interest in ceramics whilst studying year 12 Visual Arts. I began my formal studies at the Ballarat University before moving to Newcastle in 2002.
I have been studying Ceramics at the Hunter Institute of TAFE for the past 4 years and have recently completed Certificate 4 in Visual Arts and Contemporary crafts.
My vessels are slipcast with porcelain. They are clear glazed on the interior, with the exterior being left unglazed to create a polished stone like effect. The design work is done with slips and underglaze pencils.

around metal rods, called mandrels, and the patterning is created through
layering with different colours.
