Ages 13 – 18 years

Join musician and artist Rainbow Chan and dive into the world of DIY aesthetics, found sounds and field recordings.

In this workshop, you will learn how to use your smart device or phone for sampling, to create beats and soundscapes. No formal musical training necessary!

Just download the free app Soundtrap before arriving.

Participants will work in pairs. The Gallery has a small number of I-Pads for pairs without their own device. Select ‘Gallery I-Pad’ when booking to reserve one.

Rainbow Chan is a vocalist, producer and multi-disciplinary artist who has built a reputation as one of the most innovative musicians in Australia. Driven by a DIY spirit, Chan melds catchy melodies and off-kilter beats made up of field-recordings and found sounds. Both heartbreaking and tender at once, her idiosyncratic brand of pop holds a mirror up to diasporic experiences, and also deeply personal tales of love and loss.

This project is supported by Create NSW’s Audience Development Fund, a devolved funding program administered by Museums & Galleries of NSW on behalf of the NSW Government.
